"If the music is the words, then a mix is a sentence, a paragraph, perhaps even a book. It may be emotional or it may be not. It may be breathtaking or relaxing. Whatsoever. A lot of DJs are, often without recognizing, not Dadaists. Their sets are books that prove themselves to be readable, even to make sense. But how can one "write", align and overlap "words", with full consciousness? How can one not just state an expression (senseless or not) but "tell" a "story"?"

This is the subject of our first experiment. We are going to tell a story through a 3 part mix series. With part one we start in a city and a people that are vibrant, moving and advancing. This first set is split into 5 movements:

1-4 Welcome

5-7 People

8-14 Sunset to Sunrise

15-20 The Wheels Of Industry

21-22 Hope For The Future

The next mix will pick up in the story where this one left off. This mix was done in one take with no edits in The Plan's make shift bunker during 2 week Escapism session number 26. This project was concieved years before and we have picked this very moment to put it into action. We beleive that spinning records can be much more than just matching beats, working the faders and eq's and just making people dance. This music is capable of putting forth messages beyond just the content of the tracks alone. Look beneath the surface..........

how will i tell the difference

between affection and tolorence; stupid question? but sometimes, a man wants some'ting from me, say sexual, that allows him to tolorate me for that opportunity whereas he has no real affection for me and after sex would  not associate with me..and in some cases nor would I associate with him..

portrait

of course rafael is not the subject of the above, nor is hansel to the right, they are both just exceptional beauty in the world at large; i've show my work of rafael many times here before, but this is the first time, i think, that i've provided an image of hansel..(if in fact that is his real name..)

AmazonaBoy.com

COST: $9.95 (The initial month is $19.95. Still, it’s a great bargain. Discounts for multi-month purchases.)
PROS: Simplicity. Cavernous archives. Lush Photography.
CONS: The site could use a touch of modernity. Zipped files are just so five minutes ago.
MOST AMAZONA THING ABOUT THE SITE: That obscure part of the world where places like this still exist. I kept waiting for Bambi to appear from behind a tree.
LEAST AMAZONA THING ABOUT THE SITE: Directors giving instructions on camera. It’s a little too Dress Rehearsal-ish.

OVERALL: A fantastic bargain. If this is the sort of thing you’re into you will NOT be disappointed. In fact, you owe into yourself to run out right now and join Earth First before all these luscious cuties have to put their pants back on and rejoin the modern world.

 Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is modern, sleek and shiny on the surface and while the UAE's capital is often accused of being a rather soulless place, the multicultural backstreets beg to differ. While it lacks the buzz of Dubai, its laidback vibe is more distinctly Arabian than its neighbour.

the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is thinking big. The city recently released extensive plans for the development of a multibillion-dollar, 670-acre cultural district featuring works by world-class architects Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, and Tadao Ando. Gehry's Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will consist of several "rings," which he claims will be able to house art "made on site and of a scale that could not be achieved in other museums around the world." Finally, Hadid's Performing Arts Centre will soar out over the sea, Nouvel's Classical Museum will be topped by a dome that will "let a diffuse, magical light come through in the best tradition of great Arabian architecture," and Ando's Maritime Museum will be an expansive space inspired by the "force and fluidity of Abu Dhabi's wind." The buildings are scheduled to open under a phased program beginning in 2012.

Alt.Grammys  PLUG Awards celebrate indie music, culture

The 2007 PLUG Independent Music Awards (no relation to Earplug) celebrated the hard-to-define, easy-to-recognize concept known as independent music last Saturday at Irving Plaza, kicking off with a rousing performance by young band Tokyo Police Club. Indie darlings/staples Deerhoof played a startlingly profound set, while hip-hopper El-P had a few solid notes to add. Most of the award presentations themselves, meanwhile, felt familial: Brooklyn Vegan, which won Blog of the Year, got the loudest applause of the night, while mentions of Pitchfork were roundly (ironically?) booed.

PLUG voters by and large bestowed little favor on most electronic music; Thom Yorke's The Eraser took home Electronic/Dance Album of the Year, and Girl Talk's Night Ripper won DJ Album of the Year, despite having little to do with the disc jockey's traditional job description. Somewhat surprisingly, the Knife — feted in the Pitchfork, Jackin' Pop, and Pazz & Jop polls — went back to Sweden empty-handed. (FK)

 Ojos de Burjo

Ojos De Brujo hail from the thriving sonic melting pot of Barcelona and the music reflects their Spanish and gypsy heritage, but travels light years beyond flamenco. The 8-piece collective take the flamenco and rumba traditions and kick them onto the modern dancefloor by adding hip-hop, dub and bhangra influences. ‘Bari,’ their first album to be released in the U.S. in 2004, brought the fully realized sound of Ojos de Brujo into fruition winning them legions of fans all over the world with infectious songs such as "Ventilaor R-80" and "Tanguillo de Maria" along with breathtaking performances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Central Park SummerStage and WOMAD.

After honing their stage skills with extensive tours, the band now returns with a record that very much reflects their forte, a lively sound delivered with a hodgepodge of eclectic underlying influences. The nuevo-flamenco sound on ‘Techarí’ is heightened with with Cuban drums used in bulerias (a fast flamenco rhythm), funk layered onto rumba Catalana and dhol drums that add an Eastern flavor. Special guests include Nitin Sawhney, members of Asian Dub Foundation and Senegalese hip-hop collective Daara J, Cuban pianist Roberto Carcassés and flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela. The release comes with a bonus CD-ROM that features work from illustrators for each track, translations of lead singer Marina’s startling, emotionally-charged lyrics and videos. Much more than just an album, ‘Techarí’ is the band reaching out to the world with the images and sounds of creative freedom, collective spirit and musical adventure.

when we become independent  ..

Talib Kweli, a truly independent artist in 2007 so far, has not only self-released a collaborative record with Madlib but also just finished the video for his second single "More or Less." The track features Talib's right-hand producer Hi-Tek, and the video, which was funded by his indie label Blacksmith records, is said to have used green-screen technology in spite of its smaller budget.
talib
Kweli declared, "mainstream video and radio outlets do not play my music because they follow trends instead of setting them. They have a formula to putting out Hip-Hop artists. You get your adds at radio, get your spins up, get your video on BET & MTV, check your first week sales. That formula doesn't work for artists that are more creative." His DIY ethics are to be applauded – especially because he's an established artist – but it's also worthwhile to recognize that his forthcoming album Ear Drum (out later this month) will be released on Blacksmith/Warner Bros.

reactionso, now you see my work does not always speak of the same tings, i might write about.. like this peice deals with displacement of bois in LA via the sex industry, or crime, or desire..as in the desire to be famous..it also looks at eroticism as a static image..esp., the eroticism of torture..if such a thing is possible..

Putting the sex back into homosexuality: The best of BUTT magazine so far butt book

Celebrating BUTT magazine’s fifth anniversary, this book is a selection of the most fantastic and the most ridiculous
interviews and photos that have appeared in BUTT so far. This anthology also finally makes a lot of material from the now rare, earlier issues of BUTT available again. For your (in)convenience, the timeline in the book runs backwards, from the here and now all the way back to the summer of 2001, when the first issue of BUTT landed with a bang.

Like the magazine itself, this book offers an often amazingly realistic view on today’s homosexual man, including conversations with Michael Stipe, Gus van Sant, Rufus Wainwright,Marc Jacobs, as well as contributions from Wolfgang Tillmans, Terry Richardson, Hedi Slimane, Asianpunkboy, and Helmut Lang, just to name a few. “BUTT has single-handedly pioneered the notion of a smart, literate gay magazine yet also manages to be very dirty,” notes filmmaker Bruce LaBruce in his foreword. “BUTT matters. BUTT fills a hole.”

With sexy pictures of, and candid interviews with: Asianpunkboy, Bruce Benderson, Peter Berlin, AA Bronson, Christopher Ciccone, Martin Degville, Tommy Deluca, Ed Droste, Al Eingang, Thomas Engel Hart, Marc Jacobs, Heinz Peter Knes, Marcelo Krasilcic, Bruce LaBruce, Inez van Lamsweerde, Lutz, Ryan McGinley, Alasdair McLellan, Matmos, Walter Pfeiffer, Terry Richardson, Paul Rutherford, Gus van Sant, Jeremy Scott, Jake Shears, Casey Spooner, Michael Stipe, Jonsi Thor Birgisson, Wolfgang Tillmans, Viktor & Rolf, Dominic Vine, Matthias Vriens, Rufus Wainwright, John Waters, Edmund White, Bernhard Willhelm, and Jonny Wooster.

in any case.. another item on my deals with the same subject but more in reference to black men.."Beautiful Bottom, Beautiful Shame: Where "Black" Meets "Queer" by Kathryn Bond Stockton

Stockton argues in Beautiful Bottom, Beautiful Shame, has often been a meeting place for the signs “black” and “queer” and for black and queer people—overlapping groups who have been publicly marked as degraded and debased. But when and why have certain forms of shame been embraced by blacks and queers? How does debasement foster attractions? How is it used for aesthetic delight? What does it offer for projects of sorrow and ways of creative historical knowing? How and why is it central to camp?

Stockton engages the domains of African American studies, queer theory, psychoanalysis, film theory, photography, semiotics, and gender studies. She brings together thinkers rarely, if ever, read together in a single study—James Baldwin, Radclyffe Hall, Jean Genet, Toni Morrison, Robert Mapplethorpe, Eldridge Cleaver, Todd Haynes, Norman Mailer, Leslie Feinberg, David Fincher, and Quentin Tarantino—and reads them with and against major theorists, including Georges Bataille, Sigmund Freud, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Jacques Lacan, Roland Barthes, and Leo Bersani. Stockton asserts that there is no clear, mirrored relation between the terms “black” and “queer”; rather, seemingly definitive associations attached to each are often taken up or crossed through by the other. Stockton explores dramatic switchpoints between these terms: the stigmatized “skin” of some queers’ clothes, the description of blacks as an “economic bottom,” the visual force of interracial homosexual rape, the complicated logic of so-called same-sex miscegenation, and the ways in which a famous depiction of slavery (namely, Morrison’s Beloved) seems bound up with depictions of AIDS. All of the thinkers Stockton considers scrutinize the social nature of shame as they examine the structures that make debasements possible, bearable, pleasurable, and creative, even in their darkness.

“Beautiful Bottom, Beautiful Shame is an exciting, pointed, splendidly written, culturally important book.”—Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, author of Touching Feeling: Affect, Pedagogy, Performativity

Kathryn Bond Stockton is Professor of English and Director of Gender Studies at the University of Utah. She is the author of God Between Their Lips: Desire Between Women in Irigaray, Brontë, and Eliot.

Check out CSSC (center for the study of sexual culture) local academic group with similar interest as the above sited material..

i think i will be head'd that way soon enough..

they would be more than likely to have this reference material..which is on my wish list but a bit costly, like $144.00 some'ting bucks..

porno such expense for just reading material is not beyond my general life..but right now wouldn't be such a clever idea..

however the title alone has me wondering how soon could i get my grubby hands on this item..i'd tell you right now, if i could find a library with a copy, i'd probably look for a way to steal it..

For better or worse, pornography and sexual representation suffuse American culture. This first comprehensive guide to the literature includes the history of pornography in the United States and discusses pornography in a vast range of media. It presents information regarding bibliographies and reference tools concerning pornography and reviews of references devoted to the histories of sexuality and its representations and on theoretical works on erotica and pornography. A chronology of important dates in the history of American Pornography and a discussion of child pornography outline issues and events throughout its history. Dramatic, visual, and electronic media are gathered and arranged by topic. Pornography in all of its forms is explored in this three volume reference. Slade includes many avenues upon which pornography and sexual representation have had an impact including research and policy in the medical and social sciences, the law in the United States, and the economics of pornography. An invaluable tool for further research, this guide to the literature of pornography and sexual representation will appeal to scholars and students of popular culture, gender and women's studies, and gay and lesbian studies. It will also interest those in the field of American history and mass media.

The Mystic Sk8 Cup (MSC) is amongst the best events of the WCS (World Cup Skateboarding) series and it is the most popular event in Europe. The main reason is unarguable - the event is much more than a sports competition. Live concerts, DJ performances, graffiti jam, art exhibitions, video projections and various workshops play an important role in the event, just to name a few. The key idea is to do everything the riders need and want to enjoy taking part in the event.

Nostalgia and desire in Japanese 'homosexual' porn
Mark McLelland

Pornography in Japan is less segregated than in Anglophone countries and a wide variety of sexual imagery is apparent throughout the media, including diverse representations of male homosexuality. This presentation looks at two specific sites where images of male homosexuality are particularly common: gay magazines and videos and, more surprisingly, girls' comics. I suggest that for Japanese women, male homosexuality is tied up with notions of the foreign. Many of the stories and scenarios are situated in distant, 'other' places and the 'beautiful boys' who fall in love with each other are drawn in such a way to look, if not exactly 'Western, ' at least 'not Japanese.'

In pornographic images and stories created by and for Japanese gay men, however, foreign locations and foreigners themselves are largely absent. Featured instead are many representations of 'the traditional Japanese man' that evoke nostalgia for scenarios from Japan's homosocial past: the Shrine festival, the boys' school, the playing field. 'Authentic' Japanese props, such as the fundoshi (loin-cloth) are common signifiers of this Japaneseness. To some extent Japanese gay men's desire is directed at images from the past where foreigners are absent. Japanese women's fantasies of male homosexual desire, however, are frequently concerned with characters and scenarios that if not always foreign, are at least not Japan(ese)

enough is enough (i go through shit like dis everyday)

i've had enough of being treated like a second class citizens by immigrant bigots;

her 'attitude made her nose look dirty and her face grimmy; but somehow, she want'd to believe that she was better than i..

it happen'd like dis,

i went into that overpriced out let called a Whole Foods, and ya know every'ting in 'there wants to believe that it is the answer to the 'alternative' lifestyle..

so, i'm like hungry, but i don't want to spend a fortune just for a light breakfast; i remembered an idea of biscuts and bacon..so i decided to buy said items..think'n that ought' to keep it cheap..esp., with the 'mark-up' going on in Whole Foods;

by lilly

anyhow, i get the bacon after wait'n out some freak before me load'n up a paper plate with bacon..during which he stop'd twice and look'd at me waiting on him..now there was only one tong for bacon so i had to wait.. even after he laid the tong down, he stayed right infront of the bacon tray so no one else could do any thing but wait on him..course u know he had to wrap his plate with foil right there too..all the while looking at me wait'n on him..o.k.,

i waited..

when he finally moved; i must have grunt'd some ting..(i did actually mutter, 'get a life') i think he heard me..cause he said some'ting to me but i didn't make out what was it that he said.

rotu drawing of skull

any how..i get the bacon, swing over to the coffee shelf and grab a couple of $.99 cent biscuts..and head to check out..

the 'chick' checked out my bacon..but won't close the lid on the shit..no she's too busy check out my other two items and holding out her hand for money; well, the total comes to $5.18 and i kind'a look up..and ask..how much was the bacon..

'$1.19.." she replies, rolling her eyes..and smirking..then i ask how much the biscuts, and she repleis..'$1.99..and looks at me with this kinda smirk' then she goes "u want a bag for this.."

i go, yeah, as i walk away back to the coffee counter..cause i'm certain them biscuts are $.99 cents..but i wanna make sure before i say any'ting to her..cause i know she is trip'n..well a manager is walking away from the coffee counter with a cashier drawer, so i ask her if the biscuts are $.99 cents, she kinda mumbles some'ting about yeah, i think so, not sure you'll have to ask at the counter..so i continue on to counter check pantry from where they came..hmmmmmmm, no price sticker..so i ask the cashier..she's like impatient, but says, yeah, they're $.99 cents,

i say, could you please come over to this other cashier and tell her that cause i think she's over charged me..she says, well, i can't give you a refund, you'll have to go to customer service..(i'm think'n, damn this is rather involved for two biscuts, and an overcharge on their part..)3 studies of rafael wit colab by relief by rafael

any how, she actually follows me to the other cashier, and starts to tell her that the biscuts are only $.99 cents, meanwhile at this time the manager with the cashier drawer is also telling the other cashier that the biscuts are only $.99cents, whom is still standing there holding my $6.00 and looking at me like i'm crazy or someting for helping her realize that she over charged me..

she gives me back a dollar, and re rings up items to $3.18 and gives me my change, and asks me again if i wanted a bag, i say yes, she grabs my food  on the exposed food side by her 'dirty' hand and shoves it all into a bag..

and turns away..i turn to leave but realize that the whole time this went down, she was snide and smirking and basicly indifferent to her own error..

so i step back and say, excuse me can i speak wit ya..without moving a way from the other person she goes 'Why? with this 'terrible' smirk on her face like i'm gonna try to 'come on to her or some'ting..and she's so weary.."

i say normaly when you make a mistake you say excuse me or you apologize for your error, and you don't make the customor feel like it is his/her fault..

she's like, i didn't say it was your fault..i say, well your attitude certainly says that, and i leave..but by now i'm pissed and angry..esp., cause she was just so rude and nasty to me and i could tell it was more cause she is a bigot than anyting i had done to her..worse yet she is from india..u can tell, possibly from pakistan..in either case i doubt she was born and raised here..but she's giving me attitude like i'm some nasty person that she's 'had to put up with' when in fact she was the source of the whole problem..and hell'a mo nasty than what ever she imagined me as..

Only One Place of Redress: African Americans, Labor Regulations and the Courts from Reconstruction to the New Deal | Book Reviews

recounted in Only One Place of Redress: African Americans, Labor Regulations, and the Courts from Reconstruction to the New Deal, + a recent book by David Bernstein that offers a short and sharp challenge to the prevailing narrative of the emergence of the contemporary American welfare state. Bernstein places labor laws at the center of that development and of the contemporary plight of black Americans. He makes a strong case that many of those ostensibly neutral laws, from Reconstruction through the New Deal-- e.g., emigrant-agent laws, professional-licensing laws, prevailing and minimum-wage laws, and collective-bargaining laws-- were either directly aimed at stymieing black economic and social advancement, or, if not so aimed, were quickly turned to that use. Thc NRA was a classic illustration of this dynamic: self promotionIt cartelized a huge swath of the American labor market and handed over that cartel power to labor unions from which blacks, with few exceptions, were totally excluded. The American F ederation of Labor was one of the most discriminatory, and as it and other exclusionary unions gained power, African Americans were put out of good work, and, in many cases, out of all work. The now longstanding gap between black and white unemployment rates dates precisely from this moment of government intervention on labor's behalf. In short, Bernstein argues that the victories of organized labor were the undoing of American blacks.

of course the usual is what's really on my mind..

..pysco social maping and what that might be, comes in the form of a 5'11 foot, carmel colored, short dreadloc, boi hanging out in my home__waiting__on some'one to rescue him from the collaspe of his 5 year marriage.  I guess i'm doing just that in the 'short' window.

Some days are harder than others.ashy Ryoga Vee
There are those that simply breeze by, and other then the weight of the world descends down upon you.

From time to time I stare into that dirty shattered mirror of mine that quietly sits behind my door. I don't know why I've kept it for so long. Perhaps I don't believe in the 7 years of bad luck, or maybe I embrace the notion. Today I propped it upright to take a look at myself. I thought about what it is I'm doing with my life, why it is I've done nothing but fail at my feeble attempts at happiness, and ponder what it would take to just have one moment of success.

I gaze deep into my own eyes via my reflection and search for something, something missing that is.
I begin to think about my more enduring qualities, the things that make me Vee. The lil bits that cause people to like and adore me… but after long thought and contemplation, I in fact discover nothing. While I can easily find 100 reasons or more for people not to be fond of me. I can't think of even one that would draw someone closer.
And if that be the case…
Then why am I here?

I know I sound so defeatist with that statement but please keep in mind I'm not crazy (debatable though). I do still maintain a logical thought process. With that said, I truly, openly and honestly of sound body and mind see nothing of myself worth while. At lease not in this solitary state.

I admit that I'm dependent. I only function well with other people, or rather another person. But alone I'm nothing. So, if all this is true, if I really am just a waste of space. No job, no money, no hope, no friends, no ambition… then why am I here? Perhaps the better question is what's stopping me from not being here.

We'll just ponder this notion tonight.
Nothing less, nothing more.

shallow waters run deep...

or does it?

This very threshold, as Guillaume Pinard puts it, “ which you feel does not belong to you, does not link you, but however is your core “.

joeytoday, the world comes crashing in with it's violent content;  i never preceived myself as a fence rider, someone unable to take a stand, either left or right; yet, neither the left or right would be an option i would choose.  I can not agree with violence, yet when i watch jewish childern in Israel occupied Palestinian like Hebron attack palestinians for no other reason than to be violent, i become engraged__though my better senses realize that these actions are far deeper than they appear.
Talking about Africa - debt relief, AIDS relief, starvation relief which for me is a history of racist fabrication at the expense of millions of lives past and future born.
Pinard
why? to what end is all of this mindless killing and destroying..i flashed on Hitler today..but i realized
there is no one figure we can blame,
as they did back in that day, to blame Bush, or others is not really real to me..these men are not alone in these actions..i too am to blame, i should have burned my body in protest to this madness long ago..
talking still about africa - or more commonly understood as the middle-east rwanda/dafur again and againand the joys of killing..
i am so depressed with the state of the violent world, and shameful that my art is at best my only reaction..i simply don't think marching in the street, blowing up military bases, or such tings..really will put a dent in the onslaught..of inhumanity.. dafur is no small tragedy..
i've come to think that i am perhaps soulless..since i do not get beyond my tiny tiny little cornor of the world as far as affecting change or making a difference for the better..i dream of having a super power to wipe away evil..but i think i would become evil in such a power///////////////
knowledgeit is not possible for me to judge others fairly, or to judge them at all, thus with such a power, i would have to judge and in that i'm sure to be bias..and harm innocent persons in reaction to the evil of others..my faith in God, does not give me answers for the evil in people's hearts..i can not understand people who hate, and hate, and hate;

an aside:   Galerie Anne Barrault hosted Guillaume Pinard’s kinesthetic drawings. In a time when male studies are not (as) acceptable as the well-heeled female studies, meditations on masculinity must enter through backdoors—in poetry, through homosexuality, in art, through comic books. Pinard’s drawings have their fair share of cars, boobs, and muscles. G. PinardAn animation on the back wall exploits our attraction to sequential images. In vain hope for narrative, a cluster of us box-wine chuggers watched a fly alternately schtup a chicken, ride a motorcycle through a forest, and meditate on a pile of, you know. The mural on the entrance wall seemed to sum up the experience aptly: a broken tube (plane?) either rocketed away or eructated plumes of exhaust (air?). Motion is for certain, but direction is ambiguous, which is like a lot of guys we know.

i don't even understand myself.. like why my work never wants to broach subjects that sear and burn through my mind..and when my work does approach such subjects..it immediatly softens the coarseness of the event, or rose colors the male subject of such a state..duch, a killer

why can't i smile about it..

                                              artist at work

  can i make myself smile?

self doubt is a terrible condition..some'ting i tried to get my 5am guest to let go of..but that's another story

From Iowa (an equally exotic location), Anne distorts gentlemanly poetics and launches a thought-raft into the future, the grubby future //

i never know about shit until it done long since happened.

most times it's too far for me to consider going anyhow..esp., being a broke ass blackie in Oakland california..

following leads, to music and art..i get lost in the possibilities of arrivals and departures.. i'm never able to just settle on some information..each like Shredding Radio has been webcasting great underground rock continuously 7 days a week, 24 hours a day since March of 2000. hockney copyor even, such dedicated work like, Used bin Forever's Notable cuts of punk/hc/garage/indie/crap that I feel is worth your while, with an editorial gabfest intended to charm you. Oh, and those mp3 links--don't worry, they're not pop-ups. When you click on a link, a new window will open to the site that hosts that mp3 or zip (often Sendspace). Scroll down and the download link will be waiting for you if it's still available. If the link has expired and you can't go on living without hearing that song, email me and we'll rap. I aim to please.

i guess my thing is just personal and lazy..huh..though i have whip'd out three podcast in the last couple of days..no big deal really..in the detailsi guess it's all in the details.

where do they all come from, church number nine..leads me to a few others like, magic of JuJu, and Resonance 104.4 fm though i am not a big fan of radio..perhaps internet radio is better, and less commercial..i'm not sure..since i never listen to radio, in either format..why recommend..well, i'm subject to change if i get enough recommendations..ting is..like i said, i seem to miss out on events right under my nose and let's not forget a local blog that probably would have let me know of such a gig.. like the 16th of Feb..which is just around the corner.. though i'm not a big fan of the elbo room esp., aft i hosted a private party there and the bartender ripped my tab off..

o.k., o.k., i need to just get into the mix local..like here is new spot in downtown oakland..<block>In urban circles, word of mouth travels at the speed of a proverbial BART train. So it was only a matter of time before hipsters got wind of Oakland’s Air Lounge, which is just a cocktail olive’s throw from the 12th Street station.
It’s been almost one year since the lounge opened last December, but the buzz has yet to subside. “We haven’t had a slow weekend since we opened,” confides co-owner and former nightlife promoter Gary Jacques, who, in 2005, joined forces with industry gurus Abdul Qudus, Antonio Nunez and Robert Nunez (owner of Dolce in San Francisco). Their mission? To breathe new life into the city’s scene.
the door The fellas introduced their concept below street level in the Old Oakland Historic District and named it Air in honor of the outdoor brick patio—the ideal place to cool off after tearing up the darkly lit dance floor. “When you walk outside, the air just hits you,” Qudus explains. The mod interior, awash in shades of sky blue and nimbus cloud, is sleeker and sexier than your average Oakland scene, which makes it popular among twenty-something, single professionals. But on any given date night, couples like to cozy up on the twin-size beds (complete with faux foam mattresses) to sip, schmooze and recline to the DJ-spun sounds of house, reggae, soul and R&B.
Despite an influx of the cool crowd, Air retains a cozy, laid-back vibe, thanks to a friendly team. But night owls should remember to dress to impress (no tennis shoes or sports apparel) and grab dinner beforehand—appetizers only are served on Fridays from 7 p.m. until the kitchen runs out.
For a nighttime experience that’s sure to take your breath away, check out Air Lounge, 492 Ninth St., (510) 444-2377</block>

new life the man said..like i'd fit into that scene..i don't think so....hell they don't even give the DJ a name..so i have to wonder just how important is the sounds..looks like too much money for a drink to me..but then i'm a broke ass artist..

of course, i could never promote the Coup enough though i've never met the folks, i got much respect for what he writes and supports..tried to get a painting off the ground of bro..but i'm still trip'n..coup gosh, he's just so smart, black, proud, and sexy looking man..they passed through him and his DJ..

i want to rant..on everyting..

"when he moves i watch him from behind he turns and laughter flickers in his eyes intent and direct when he speaks, i watch his lipsrafael (beauty) and when he drives i love to watch his hand white and smooth almost feminine, almost american, i have to watch him.what rafael want sooner than the likes of i

so un related..; i want my work to restore? the beauty of the black male form to classical art; i question the word choice restore cause i don't think that beauty has ever been lost, so much as diminished, disregarded, denied, deleted, and demeaned. i think i am also talking about males of color as much as i am about black men, since my work also approaches latin, asian, and middle eastern men as subject matter; like Nathum Zenil (one of rafael's favorites) i have always felt marginalized..and my art is a communication between the members of society and myself, as a definant expression or reconigition, and determined sense of place and acceptance.

but again, i'm distracted from my original desire..to rant..just when i look at rafael, i am suddenly so calm and at peace..in any case, i was going to talk about some woman lawyer's rant about the walking smoking....maybe i don't really care what she thinks..now that i think about it..i started a poem/song

"some one started grief'n bout walking smokers giving grief for 10 feet of safety or loss of health....when really the grief is right..cause I'm sure to want you 10 feet from my ill health...stay the fuck off me cause i'm smoking and I want this cloud of toxin around me 24 7, especially if it keep you 10 feet from my soul..or it it put me closer to the lord that's my life so walk some other way bitch."

not very clever i know..but that was what rolled off my head..i just cann't get with the anti smoking zealouts..way too much grief..makes me wanna smoke more..of course right now, i wonder why i'm attracted to guys that aren't attracted to me..more so because of race than anything..stupid..i know..for me to even think about it..
