The Music Never Ends

Shirley_Horn.jpg
  1. Come a little Closer/Wild is the Wind
  2. Where Do You Start?
  3. Summer (Estate)
some singers touch a vulnerable and tender part of your heart so easily you think they perhaps had a private window to your joys and sorrows. I cann't say when I first heard the light twinkling and deep heartfelt sultry voice; perhaps it was around 2000 just after i left J.R.. Sitting around sulking over my decision with a friend, he had a tape with him that we put into my player; I think it was 'I Thought About You: Live At Vine St" and I was lost to Horn forevever. Now maybe that wasn't exactly how it happend, i'm not sure, cause some how I remember haveing 'Light Out Of Darkness (A Tribute To Ray Charles)' well before L.J. and I had hung out. I first heard 'Where Do You Start' from Michael Feinstein's 'Isn't It Romantic 1988 Elektra Recordswhich was well before my heartache; but the song stuck to me along with a few others he had on that disc, like, 'I wanna be Loved, or Wasn't it Romantic or I can dream, can't I?/I'll be seeing you.' But Shirley's version totally scored me over, being both harsh and sweet, painful and matter-of-fact that hush'd style of hers.   this is possible, since i think i first heard Horn on a quiet nites in 1973 wit Patty; we use to listen to Ms Horn, Wayne Shorter, Mongo Santamaria, and Miltion Nascimento late into the night. The music gave us great peace and joy, but I was a young man in 1973 and several of the artist that P.S. and I listened together never affected me as much until I listened to them alone, long after my affair with P.S.; I think Ms Horn was one such artist.   surely you have the experience of hearing again anew; I must have listened to Miles Davis's 'Big Fun'at least once every day back in 1974, but I never heard it as significantly as I do now in 2005; the same is true for 'Great Expectations' the novel--the story has rang more true to me now than it ever did when I first read the novel in 1960.   Some where in the early 90's, i must have picked up 'Shirley Horn with Strings Here's to Life' more than likely cause I was interested in her version of 'Wild is the Wind'; at the time I hadn't heard even Nina Simone's version, but only David Bowie's cover. I had fallen in love with the song because of Bowie and so I picked up anybody else who did it out wonder and curiosity. Somehow the heart ache of leaving J.R. reintroduced me to the soft stylings of Ms Horn's singing--and I am forever grateful for at least that experience. At first I probably only wanted to hear soft music that wouldn't jar me out of my heartache; but Ms Horn, not only touched my heartache she healed it as well. I grew stronger and more resolved to quit crying and doubting myself the more I listened to her.   Her voice reassured me in ways I can not fully explain here. I realized my heartache was as old as old itself, and that many a women and men had lived on after similar experiences.

but before i go there, i wanted to share the one's i wanted to get in 05 but due to financial difficulties have as of yet not purchased; of course I doubt i will find vinly copies of these now, may be at Leopoles, or Ameboa but that's some serious crate digging in them warehouse's of music..esp., since they never know where to put some of these artist i.e., by catagory..
Broadcast_tender-buttons.gif  now i picked up Pendulum in 2003, and have been rock'n it since, Tender Buttons is actually new to me, so i'll have to hunt for it..
some time ago, like 2000-2001, i was spinning vinly at a coffee house 'Oh So Little Cafe' in mission district in san francisco, we did a sunrise sunday show every sunday, esp., since i lived around the corner from the joint; every now and then we did live shows..and deerhoof was one of our live shows, this was way back when they was just a bunch of music freeks..not commercial artist..anyhow they gave me copy of there white lable LP put out by Global Buddy Records, inc. and i've treasured it every since_______________--------======but this new one in 05 i've never seen..so i guess i'm on the hunt for it too  deerhoof_runners-four.gif

"Beau Mot Plage" is what i remember, but not their original but someone's remix.. Isolee_we-are-monster.gif  so yeah, i would like to hear this one as well.. records cost money and the mo records the mo costly..which many of us poor DJs can not afford..least this poor as DJ, right now i need new needles real bad..sooner than new records..dig.?

innercurrent_______-------======a label of downtempo and lush lounge, IDM, and funk with some dUb thrown in for rounding out the label. touching my work takes to some MP3 mixes they're giving out, most by DJ Tundra. EDAN my wish right now would be a chance to hear the man's sounds; picked up that article in waxpoetics #14 the discography is clever but the pictures scared me. Even in a trusted news source, sometimes the small print yields more interest, like the shout out to placematters wit the (waxpoetics #14) article Return to the East, Brooklyn reclaims the Black Art form known as jazz which brought my attention to Kwasi Konadu of african studies quarterly among other things..like Truth Crushed to the Earth Will Rise Again
electroFunkRoots there is a streaming mp3 worth the load up. of course I'm a child of 82-83 when the clubs where fun for me even if my life was a difficult set of situations. another listen post..provided by soundwayrecords.com Totally Radio on line radio for Juice 107.2 radio made in Brighton..i was looking for the roots mp3 files.

Pointless personified

I'm alone in the world, short of the few visitors that manage to find their way into my world; and lately i do wonder what is the point, of my existence. Average type of guy, way to preoccupied with porn and generaly obcessed with body image__or what others think of me. At one time my art served as my base inspiration -- existing as it does in so little of a critical feedback, I'm not sure I can call it art any more but more like a past time.detail_2a Oakland california, east side for those into the geographical distinctions of an area; I have found that for most black persons this is an important distinction--uptown or downtown. I have never really cared since in most cases my life has been spent being the new kid in town. I'm not really new to Oakland since I've lived here before on at least two other occassions--that now seem like seperate life times. This time around I moved in with a woman 'associate' of mine whom has since left me living in this flat alone--not that I mind; I use to think that I needed to live alone to create but lately I've come to realize I could stand to live with my muse even if it creates chaos in my everyday life. There are many talented persons that touch our lives in the day to day and i'm proably gonna attempt to give all of them big shout out wit this new year, new blog; now I've tried to establish such a realtion with my blakBuck but may have gotten way too side tracked with my more personal 'issues', of which i seem to have many. Unlike the blogs i so admire of which there are many--ANZIDESIGN being one of my favorites. (Why I am suddenly wondering what happend to BFP is way off track..esp., since they really don't exist anymore, I think you can catch some archived video at catch's place which is proably not even owned by black fags.) I digress; let me continue to talk about the blogs i admire. I admire persons whom write, or at least are consistent about their writing; some'ting i would like to be more like this year--of course u do need a subject matter worthy of such, which may be the heart of some of my failings--I don't really have any'ting that interesting to say and to be critical requires way too much work. My aim this year is to be simple and straight forward. Gary has the right idea of which he calls it a 'virtual sandbox' and I like that idea..though this will be more like virtual quicksand. Which reminds me, Chris of Lemon-Red is definitly a great blog writer. I spend a great deal of my free time reading his reviews and opinions. Music is the heart and soul of iDLg and between my attempts at painting i'm either listening to, reviewing or writing about or creating music. Of course I have no training in music and for the most part I am proably tone deaf and lack any sense of beat or time (who says poets can dance)kiss_like_dat.gif but i have had a love affair with music and sound for the larger part of my little life. Hopefully this year, I will write some revews that are worthy of peer review. I want the world to know I'm listening more importantly i want the artist to know i'm listening; once i shot off a comment to a local 'famous' musician, Lesser and to my actual amazement he took the time to write me back. You have understand I think of this guy as GOD and had no idea that he would even care what I thought of his greatness. Wayne I want to be like you too--which is a shame since I am a grown man who should know by now who and what i am to my world..instead of yet still seeking out some sort of role to live 'up' . There is so much to admired in people who write and if the internet has opened any door for me it is the door to people who love to write. The ting about internet writing is that on the surface it seems like a simple ting to dothe_fold yet it requires real effort and for the most part skill. I think we sometime fail to appreciate how the internet has actually returned societies to the art and skill of writing as well as reading.

ARTS

The ARTS channel here in the bay area of Oakland is perhaps the best television only in the sence that it does not have commercials..streaming video of often classical (read: white) music..but I did see M. Anderson. I wonder what she would think of youngbloods today esp., with regards to music and singing colored folks. Speaking of T.V., I watched a chocolatier talk his stuff about his chocolate making and taste. I so dearly love good chocolate; the one ting i miss the most about Amsterdam;mumbojumbo Speaking of taste, I recently tried La Chouffe Artisanal Belgian Golden Ale brewed with spices. I have to admit i like their Chouffe happy song too.. Being the holiday, and working for UC i have a nice time off, the given and a few extra vacation days; I of course am a T.V. junkee, if i had my way I would pay for satilite and cable and have a wall of sets to watch everything all the time. Some'ting like David Bowie in the 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' which is a strange film and not just for the casting of David. I proably be depressed greater when think about the information overload that would lead. Is it possible for humans to be aware of too much, esp., events of which they are powerless to affect any meaningful change. 880925213_689028-1.jpg DW-TVand waxpoetics speaking of information are a couple of good sources for at the very least interesting stories. y=sin t obcession_threeI know you don't expect me to explain that equation; suffice to say, it happens with frequency via vibrations and i bet you didn't think i would have know; complex sounds are a combination of sincurves. this is knowledge i have gained on television; periodic waves, square, sawtooth, even loops are periodic waves.. cephLisa_and iDLg State of my Whiteness
